Most questions center around delivery times and freight costs. We will be developing this page in the future. Feel free to call 877-885-7527 or use or Information Request Form. Question: How are products shipped? Most burlap orders are shipped by UPS Ground or FedEx Ground. Ground shipments generally will be 3-5 days in transit. If you need delivery sooner, be sure to instruct us to ship 3 day ground, 2nd day air or next day or make that selection when you order on line. Large Orders generally 500 lbs or more will ship most economically by common carrier taking 5-7 days. If you have a preference we will try and ship according to your requests. What is burlap? The manufacture of textiles, burlap is in that category, is one of the oldest of man's technologies. In order to make textiles, the first requirement is a source of fiber such as jute, a naturally grown plant typically found in India and Pakistan (and others) from which a yarn can be made, primarily by spinning. The yarn is processed by knitting or weaving, which turns yarn into cloth. The machine used for weaving is the loom. For decoration, the process of coloring yarn or the finished material is dyeing. Burlap fabric is a loosely constructed, heavy weight, plain weave fabric used as a carpet backing (being replaced by synthetics, and as inexpensive packaging for sacks of grain or rice. Also, as fashion dictates, burlap may also appear as a drapery fabric. How long are burlap rolls?
What is treated burlap? Treated burlap is generally used in the nursery industry to wrap tree and bush root balls. It retards the growth of the roots and may slow biodegradation. Copper sulfate is used to treat the burlap and we do not recommend it for any use other than for nursery applications What is the difference between 7-ounce burlap and 10-ounce burlap? 7-ounce burlap is used by the nursery industry and applications that do not require a tight weave, that may need air flow such as potato bags. This weight burlap will let the background or light show. 10-ounce burlap is a tighter weave fabric and used in most bags and applications requiring a tighter weave. Less background will show when covering tables or walls. A field test I use is: with 7 ounce burlap you can see your hand threw the material easily, with 10 ounce you can not see your hand very well. |
